Flown to Wanganui for conversion to UH-12E-3.
The following account comes from Garry Minnell, a helicopter engineer from New Zealand:
"I worked for Alexander Helicopters in the 60s as an apprentice helicopter engineer and was involved in most of the work carried out there at that time. I remember the E4 coming into the workshop (it was a blue colour) and being assembled, in fact I flew in it after assembly with Ian Wakeling flying it. I think Bill Black from Te Anau flew the E4 however they didn't like it as it wasn't as manouverable as the E3, so it was flown back to Wanganui for conversion to E3. I did most of the conversion, it being a relatively easy job as the E4 was basically an E3 with a forward section riveted on. There is a Bulletin for E3 to E4 conversion, however no Bulletin for the reverse, my guess is that the factory would have allowed it as it such an easy mod."
