Mirage IIIO A3-16 flown by FLTLT Geoff Warrener had departed Townsville
for Darwin on 2 May 1966 in company with A16-30 flown by Roger Lowery.
Before reaching cruise altitude, a fuel dump valve on A16-30 opened
and both aircraft had to dump fuel from their external tanks and return
to Townsville. The photograph was taken by Roger Lowery from A16-30
over the hills of Many Peaks at Pallarenda near Townsville on the mainland,
with Acheron, Herald and Palm islands in the background. Note that the
Road Runner nose art had been removed by this time. QUEENSLAND
