To facilitate the loading of a stretcher, Beech Queen Air VH-FDV was modified by Hawker de Havilland at Bankstown to incorporate an additional upward-opening door (outlined in red). Inset into this door was an inward-opening drop hatch (outlined in blue) which was used for air dropping medical supplies at remote locations. Several other early model Queen Air ambulances received a similar modification which was no longer necessary after later models introduced a double door.
