Auster J/5B VH-KCL at Neelia Station, Capella on 8 August 1974. Aviation historians Mike Vincent, Melvyn Davis and Geoff Goodall were touring Queensland in search of interesting aircraft on remote properties. Geoff contacted Rob Donaldson the previous evening and he agreed to pull VH-KCL out of its hangar next morning so that it could be photographed. Geoff recalls: "There was a drought at the time and I remember there was a dead sheep right outside the shed but Rob just rolled an Auster main wheel through the rotting animal without hesitation. Rob told us he had flown the aeroplane a fortnight earlier."Picture: Mike Vincent via Nigel Daw QUEENSLAND AIR MUSEUM www.qam.com.au |
